☆ Opinion: What ‘Unfrosted’ reveals about my growing unease about Jerry Seinfeld

I love “Seinfeld.” As for the actual comedian Jerry Seinfeld, however it’s…complicated. In most of his activities outside his eponymous classic sitcom (1989-1998), Seinfeld bemuses more than amuses me. This ambivalence only obliquely affects my opinion of “Unfrosted,” Seinfeld’s recently-released feature-length Netflix comedy. Still, I’ve always had the disquieting sense of Seinfeld somehow always Getting Away With Something when he pulls off this suave, impeccably creased act. Seinfeld isn’t about unsettling his viewers and I’m in no way suggesting he should be.

Richard Leibner, a powerful agent whose firm brokered contracts for many of the biggest names in television news, including Dan Rather, Diane Sawyer, Anderson Cooper, Ed Bradley, Morley Safer and Steve Kroft, died on Tuesday at his home in Manhattan. His son Jonathan said the cause was kidney cancer. Mr. Leibner’s firm, N.S. Bienstock — named for one of its founders, Nathan Bienstock — represented hundreds of anchors, reporters, producers and others in network and local television news. The negotiation that grabbed the biggest headlines was for Mr. Rather, then one of the star correspondents of the CBS News program “60 Minutes.”Between late 1979 and early 1980, Mr. Leibner (pronounced LEEB-ner) parlayed interest in Mr. Rather as the evening anchor from all three network news divisions: ABC News, whose president, Roone Arledge, was trying to raise his third-place division’s profile; NBC News, where the evening anchor John Chancellor was hoping to change to a commentary role; and CBS News, where Walter Cronkite had been the evening anchor since 1962.

I wanted a way to incorporate my maiden name into my kids' names to preserve my family legacy. Our family has also had weekend-long family reunions every two years in hotels across the United States since 1976. In exchange, I gave my daughter two middle names, the first name I originally wanted to name her and my maiden name. The kids will continue the tradition of going to my family reunions and bonding with my extended family. While they may not often use their middle names, they'll understand why mommy was adamant about also passing down her maiden name.

YouTuber Trevor Jacob has been sentenced to six months in prison, prosecutors said. Jacob intentionally crashed a small plane in California on 2021 for a YouTube video. Two days later, Jacob informed the National Transportation Safety Board of the plane crash, and said he would help them locate the crashed plane, prosecutors said. When pleading guilty in June, Jacob said he'd agreed to advertise a sponsor's product — a wallet — in his YouTube video, prosecutors said. I hope our study could settle the debate regarding whether we should limit red meat intake for health concerns or not.”Eating certain amounts of red meat has been linked with higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The authors studied 216,695 people who had participated in the Nurses’ Health Study, the Nurses’ Health Study II and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, all of which recruited participants from around 1976 to 1989. Eating the most processed or unprocessed red meat was linked with a 51% and 40% higher risk of type 2 diabetes, respectively. But multiple biological factors could have affected the relationship between red meat and type 2 diabetes, the authors said. “Consistently reported, dairy, legumes and nuts are the best foods with which to replace the red meat,” she added.

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. (AP) — A Northern California sheriff's deputy was found dead in her home and her boyfriend was later arrested arrested in Oregon on suspicion of killing her, authorities said. The body of Deputy Deanna Esmaeel was discovered Thursday at the residence in coastal Crescent City, California, the Del Norte County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. Authorities in Curry County, Oregon, found Walter's black Mazda sedan on Friday and he was arrested a short time later, officials said. Sheriff's officials didn't say if the 54-year-old suspect had an attorney and contact information for Walter could not be found on Sunday. Del Norte County Sheriff Garrett Scott said his office was heartbroken by the loss of one of its deputies.

PHOENIX (AP) — David Muir, anchor of “ABC World News Tonight," will be the next recipient of Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism, the school announced Tuesday. The managing editor of the nightly newscast, Muir will accept the award in February at a luncheon in downtown Phoenix. This will be the 40th year the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication has given out the accolade. At ABC, he has conducted exclusive interviews with several world leaders including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv last year. Past honorees of the Cronkite Award include Bob Woodward, Christiane Amanpour and Gayle King.

CNN —A Picasso masterpiece entitled “Femme à la montre” is expected to fetch more than $120 million when it goes up for auction this fall. Sotheby'sThe piece, which measures 51¼ x 38 inches (130 x 96.5 centimeters), depicts Picasso’s lover and “golden muse” Marie-Thérèse Walter, who featured in many of his portraits. In a statement announcing the sale, Julian Dawes, Sotheby’s head of Impressionist & Modern Art for the Americas, said: “Picasso’s ‘Femme à la Montre’ is a masterpiece by every measure. The artist painted “Femme à la montre” in August 1932, soon after the retrospective at the Galerie Georges Petit in Paris ended. Nor that an infant is some 70 percent more likely to die in the United States than in other wealthy countries. Nor even that for the first time in probably a century, the likelihood that an American child will live to the age of 20 has dropped. All that is tragic and infuriating, but to me the most heart-rending symbol of America’s failure in health care is the avoidable amputations that result from poorly managed diabetes. That noise of a saw on bone is a rebuke to an American health care system that, as Walter Cronkite reportedly observed, is neither healthy, caring nor a system.
